This Magazine New York International is devoted to the Well-Known Cities Project, Part One: NEW YORK.
A new project by Peter Spaans for Under Construction Art Projects, Amsterdam / New York.
In this project that he began in 2002, Mr. Spaans will search for the urban landscapes around well-known
city landmarks that became touristic places, without naming these amazing and spectacular sites.
He is interested in those special spaces where people dreamed of the future or of new horizons or even of utopia.
He ignores the famous landmark; he is just interested in the ordinary cityscapes near some of
the worldÕs well-known places, spaces that are often photographed and videotaped by many different people.
For Mr. Spaans it is important to know about these common urban spaces, as they influence our lives the most.
They are the spaces that we have to deal with in our daily lives. They are where we live our normal day-to-day lives.
