kunstverein
Grafschaft Bentheim
in Neuenhaus, germany
1. January 13 2002 my latest exhibition (in kunstverein Grafschaft Bentheim in Neuenhaus in Germany)
ended with a round table conversation with invited people about the work. My part
(it was an exhibition with Hans Eijkelboom) was: I invited 11 people from the Grafschaft (a province)
Bentheim to describe their daily route from home to work etc. I drove and walked those ways
and photographed it all. I sended a cd-rom with the photoÕs to the kunstverein and asked to
those people to pick up the 10 most relevant pictures and I choose 40 and in that 40 I choose
again for 10. (without knowing their choices). All these information I used to choose the
pictures and I printed (ink jet) the following:
1. pictures chosen by myself and the other people A2 format in colour (I picked only 1).
2. rest of pictures chosen by myself and others in A3 format colour.
3. rest of 10 pictures chosen by them, belonging to my 40 in A4 colour
4. rest of my 10 pictures in B/W A4
5. rest of 10 pictures chosen by them, not belonging to my 40 in A4 colour.
Using this system I made the exhibition. So the layout of the exhibition was depending
of the several choices. Part of the exhibition was a book. Half filled with Hans his work
and the other half with my work. I always try to do something else
then only print my photoÕs in a book and thatÕs it. For me a book is a reconstruction of my walks
and experiences of walks, my view to our world and the consequences and impact of the build
environment to us, often printed as a series, or a story of a man or men in cities, or a
combination of those. It has to be critical, without warning. See some of the pictures of
this exhibition .
